Quantum Break, the highly anticipated Xbox One console exclusive from Remedy is out and available now. Much has been said about this ambitious title and many have looked forward to this time bending thriller. But does it live up to the hype? Here is Weapon X's Review of Quantum Break.

First the good stuff. Quantum Break is a slick, stylized action game with an interesting twist. As the main protagonist Jack Joyce you must prevent the collapse of time itself and thwart the efforts of your nemesis Paul Serene and the nefarious corporation Monarch Solutions. The story is solid and explores time travel and time manipulation in some very interesting ways. The game is gorgeous and the visuals can really be breathtaking at time. Those who were concerned about the resolution controversy need not worry. Quantum Break is a treat to the eye.
Quantum Break also boast some serious star power. Actor Shawn Ashmore plays Jack Joyce and Paul Serene is played by veteran actor Aiden Gillen. Dominic Monaghan guest stars as Jack's brother Will and brilliant actor Lance Reddick stars as Monarch Solution's front man Martin Hatch. The amount of effort and talent that went into creating Quantum Break shows in a big way.
Quantum Break's gameplay is exceptional. Your time manipulation powers allow you to be creative when in engaging in firefights. We strongly recommend you turn the difficulty to max settings to get the most of out of the game. Time bubbles that shield you from damage and deflect bullets are awesome. Freezing an enemy in time and riddling him with bullets or blowing him up in a time bomb is awesome. Time dodging behind an enemy and surprising him for a kill is...well you get it. It's fun to experiment and even more fun when you've become adept with your powers.
Now the not so good. Quantum Break's story is a mixed bag. The idea to blend the game with an episodic live action TV show will please some and turn off others. This is not the fault of the actors or the episodes themselves. It just doesn't mesh well sometimes. Being taken out of the action to watch a 20 minute live action show can be off putting. Of course you can skip them, but then you miss out on critical story elements that drive the narrative. I personally think they should've been separated. Quantum Break really didn't need the TV show elements and if they were going to do it I feel it should have been done outside of the game itself. Marrying the two isn't necessarily a bad idea but some people are going to take issue with it.
The platforming elements aren't really much to speak of, even with some cool temporal effects. Plus Jack is no Lara Croft and climbing and jumping can sometimes be slightly unnerving. The puzzles are fairly simplistic and pretty standard stuff. Considering Jack Joyce's badass powers I think more could've been done here. It's also shorter than I would've liked, clocking in at around 10-13 hours depending on how you choose to play.
Quantum Break is a flawed yet brilliant game. Remedy provides innovative action and a solid story. Jack Joyce's powers are absolutely bad ass and the Remedy makes full use of it's star studded cast. The downside is that the "TV show" and game sometimes don't mesh together as they should and one could argue they clash. That however should not in any way stop you from picking up Quantum Break. We strongly recommend grabbing this one.
