To Buy or Not to Buy: Xbox One S

The Xbox One S has arrived.  MS has streamlined the Xbox One and made it smaller, sleeker, and added a number of features including 4K video and streaming as well as HDR support.  But is it worth the price of admission?  Well that depends on a number of things and there is no simple yes or no answer.  So we decided to answer your questions with questions(don't make that face).  Hopefully this will give you a better idea of whether or not you want to put down your coins for the S.

First question is an obvious one.  Do you have a 4K TV?  No?  Then you aren't going to get much out of the Xbox One S.  Your games will not look any different.  You will see some slight performance improvements in terms of framerate(thanks to the overclocked GPU) but graphically you will not see any improvements.  If you DO have a 4K TV then you will see some slight(but noticeable) graphic differences to go along with the slight framerate increases.  It's also the cheapest 4K player you can buy so if that's your thing you are in luck.

Second question is equally obvious.  How does your pockets look?  If you got some coins to burn and like copping new tech you might want to make the move.  The 2TB Xbox One S is available now for $399 and the 5GB will be $299 when it launches August 23.  There is also a 1TB model for $349.  So if you got money you've got options.  Now if you're counting coins and watching your budget you may want to wait.  Especially if your OG Xbox One is still in good condition.  There is no rush to upgrade but if you do decide to upgrade you've got a options on how much you'll spend.

Third question is something to ponder.  Are you planning on getting Project Scorpio?  If you are waiting for the console beast incarnate then does it makes sense to get a Xbox One S?  Well that depends on how you answer questions one and two.  Scorpio sounds like it will be a powerful machine.  But is it worth the wait?  How patient are you?  Will the S and Scorpio be redundant(despite Scorpio's power) or do you have use for multiple consoles?  These are the questions you need to ask yourself.

Now we're going to be real.  Xbox One S is the console Xbox One really should have been.  It's one bad sexy mother(shut yo mouth).  But before you rush to the store to cop one or ditch your OG Xbox One consider the questions and points above.  It's about making the right choice for YOU.
